| | | | Omnica, a British company specializing in IT solutions for retail businesses with more than one sales channel – for instance physical stores, mail order, and internet sales - needed help with development of new, special functions for the ERP system Microsoft Dynamics AX. Celenia’s developers in Ukraine have completed the first two phases of the project swiftly and in good quality – and the partnership continues. | | | In his previous job, Technical Director Jon Whiteley was used to having his developers sitting just down the hall. Therefore he was initially not very enthusiastic about outsourcing the development of a range of new functions in Microsoft Dynamics AX to developers abroad.
Nevertheless, he scanned the market and on advice from Microsoft, he got in touch with Celenia, who specialize in Microsoft’s ERP systems and have their own development centers in Ukraine.
”After a small pilot project I placed an order for a development project in four phases, and they have completed the first two phases over the summer as planned. After a few hitches in the beginning, the result was good – and delivered on time. I’m very satisfied with the quality,” said Jon Whiteley and added: ”By the second phase they had already gained a good understanding of our business and our needs, so it has already become easier to hit the bull’s eye in the next phases.”
Work on the last two phases is progressing steadily. When these are completed, Omnica plans to prolong the contract further with another couple of projects. “We have established a good partnership with the people over there, so I have some more projects I want them to handle for us next year,” said Jon Whiteley. Technical design thoroughly described Omnica is a young business, established in March 2007. The company develops IT systems based on Microsoft Dynamics AX to manage finances in so-called multichannel retail businesses, who market and sell their products for instance via stores, mail order, and the internet.
Before the work began, Omnica invited the Ukrainian project manager to England for a week to go over Omnica’s business and the requirements for the development project. The technical design was meticulously described in order to avoid misunderstandings.
”Technically, they’re good – very creative and competent. But outsourcing requires that you have a good sense of what you want and are able to describe it thoroughly,” said Jon Whiteley.
During the development process, the project manager in Ukraine sends weekly progress reports.
“We also talk on the phone two or three times a week, so I have a good sense of how the work is coming along. We have established a good working method with Celenia, even if we can’t just walk down the hall to see how things are going,” said Omnica’s Technical Director. Testimonial in PDF | The challenge Omnica needed development of new functionality for Microsoft Dynamics AX for their market niche – multichannel retail business. As the start-up did not want to establish their own development department, Omnica was looking for a professional and competitive supplier with Microsoft Dynamics AX competences. The solution Microsoft recommended Celenia, who specialize in Microsoft’s ERP systems Dynamics NAV and AX and have their own development centers in Ukraine.
The result Initially, Celenia delivered a small pilot project to prove their competences. When this project had been completed to Omnica’s satisfaction, they ordered a development project in four phases. After a few months, Celenia has completed the first two phases and work on the remaining two is coming along effectively and smoothly despite the distance. Omnica expects that Celenia will also be covering their need for development within Microsoft Dynamics AX in the future.
