Elva Baltic steps up a gear. The company, one of the Baltic States’ leading IT companies, has developed a customized ERP system based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV, which is specially tuned for the automobile industry.
Elva Baltic’s solution helps car importers, garages, spare parts dealers and tuning specialists run their businesses. The system is already in use at a range of Baltic and Scandinavian dealers of brands such as Volvo, Renault, Skoda, Dacia, Mitsubishi and Bentley.
”With good documentation, it is easier for us to show customers what our system can do for them. It also makes it faster to train new users, and it improves the quality of our support,” explains Alvis Tabaks.
Strictly speaking, Elva Baltic could write the documentation themselves, but the management estimated that it would be better and more cost effective to let Celenia’s specialists handle the task.
”Documentation is a good task to outsource because it gives you a second opinion on the finished product. Furthermore, we wanted the documentation handled by specialists because it is important to us that it is one hundred percent accurate,” said Alvis Tabaks.
Celenia won Elva Baltic’s test
Initially, Elva Baltic sent a small documentation task to a few potential partners to find out who handled the task best.
”When the documentation came back, there was no doubt that Celenia won the test,” explains Alvis Tabaks.
The deciding factor was that Celenia not only wrote the user documentation, but also made a list of suggestions to let Elva Baltic know how they could improve their system.
”We never expected this level of service. We have hired partners to handle documentation tasks before, but we have never experienced that the partner would take the trouble to systematically write down improvement suggestions,” said Alvis Tabaks.
Elva Baltic has split the job of documenting their system into five modules. So far, Celenia has documented and made suggestions for improvement of the service planning module.
Elva Baltic’s goal is to get their system Microsoft certified. This process will be much easier thanks to the documentation. Celenia identifies many of the adjustments that will be required in order to achieve certification in the course of the documentation process.
”Celenia’s feedback focuses primarily on how we can improve our product to ensure that it conforms to Microsoft’s standards. Celenia works closely with Microsoft and is familiar with their standards. This is valuable to us because it is our policy that our products must conform as closely to Microsoft’s standards as possible,” explains Alvis Tabaks.
Celenia’s work pace astonishing
”The entire process from sales to project management and delivery has been handled very well. We get a lot more value for money than we were bargaining for,” explains Alvis Tabaks.
Elva Baltic’s goal is to get the solution documented and certified by 2009 and Alvis Tabaks has no doubts that it will happen according to schedule. He is astonished by Celenia’s work pace. The documentation of the first module was delivered in just one week – long before Elva Baltic was ready to send off the next module.
”We take longer to make the decision about the documentation than the guys from Celenia take to deliver the finished product,” said Alvis Tabaks with a smile.

Irina Zdanovych, User Assistant Manager: This project has been an enjoyable challenge for us. Since this solution was not developed by Celenia, we had to study it thoroughly in order to produce a comprehensive user manual. However, we found the functionality and business logic of the solution very interesting and Elva Baltic responded eagerly to the issues that arose during the process.
The challenge Elva Baltic has developed a customized ERP system for the automobile trade industry, which will be marketed globally in the coming years. However, the solution lacked proper user documentation. The solution Celenia delivers user documentation for Elva Baltic’s solution and helps them get their solution ready for Microsoft certification. The result The quality of Celenia’s work exceeds Elva Baltic’s expectations and they expect to achieve their goal of getting the solution Microsoft certified by 2009. |
